Description

The Play Rooms are a complex, interconnected network of indoor playground structures filled with plastic mats, slides, and ball pits. Similar to the previous section, the area is encompassed by a large warehouse, with fluorescent lights hanging overhead. An assortment of various obstacles, such as climbing walls, nets, and foam blocks, fills the interior of the play structures. Mounted ropes hang over seemingly bottomless pits of elastic netting, threatening to swallow up the unfortunate few who fail to make it over. The smell of stale rubber and foam emanates from within the play structures, seeping into skin and clothing, with the garish colors and harsh lighting making for a less-than-pleasant experience on the eyes. Plastic balls of every color lay scattered across The Play Rooms, rolling and knocking into one another when disturbed. Those who have entered the ball pits have claimed that they are much deeper than they appear. Some wanderers have reported resurfacing from the ball pits in a different location than they entered, including the third portion of Level Fun, with some emphasizing their utility as an effective means of transport throughout the level.

A quiet, dreamy melody reverberates throughout the level from no discernible source. Descriptions of the song itself are inconsistent, as are the experiences had by those who hear it; reports range from calling it a "nostalgic, otherworldly tune with relaxing effects" to "an irritating cacophony of unpleasant notes", with some even claiming to have heard the song before. Why this specific aspect of The Play Rooms varies — while other features remain relatively the same between accounts — is currently unknown, but some theorize that it may be linked to one's state of mind or personal history. Other reports detail hearing distant sounds of movement, activity, and even laughter in deeper areas of The Play Rooms.

Traces of the Sanguine Festivus virus have been discovered lingering within The Play Rooms, primarily clustered around the foam and ball pits. Reports of tiredness, aching, and other early signs of infection are occasionally reported by those exploring the level, with many cases quickly worsening over time. Further investigation has revealed that, rather than the strains being a foreign body introduced by wanderers, the level appears to propagate the virus itself; how exactly this process occurs is currently unknown, but it presents a significant hazard to wanderers, especially due to the infection's contagious nature. Efforts to locate and quarantine those who escape the level have achieved minimal success due to its lack of a consistent exit point, but further options are soon to be explored.

“I’ve come to the conclusion that wherever I am is split into multiple parts. From inflatable bounce houses to a vibrant, rubbery jungle of twists and turns, I realize now that wherever I am must be massive. I have no idea how long this place stretches for. I know that this place must be related to the previous one, as they both share that mock-childlike aesthetic. I find it somewhat difficult to roam through these short, netted structures, especially for someone my age. Mobility isn’t exactly on my side. This place really takes me back to those playplaces my mother would bring me to as a kid. She would be waiting by a table nearby, and always having to drag me out before our food got cold. If only she was here now to get me out of this purgatory.
The plastic balls scattered about make movement particularly annoying, and I can’t even use them as markers for a path as there’s just so many. I’m exhausted. My weariness is the only thing allowing me to push forward. After my previous experiences, I know now that it’s incredibly stupid to stay in one place for too long. There's always something out there, figuratively or literally. I can never let my guard down. I never know if I’m alone, yet somehow I yearn for the presence of something — not of malicious intent, of course, but something reflecting some sliver of humanity. If anything, I miss my mother. I didn’t realize how much I would miss the reassurance of being told that everything would be alright. I wish she were here, waiting right outside to call for me to come out, so I could return to the table, so she could hold my hand through the doors, so she could take me across the street to her beat-up 1996 Honda Accord.
I just want to go home. I feel so foolish for wanting something so simple and pathetic, yet the solace it would bring me — as opposed to the discomfort of the obnoxious florescent lights and rubbery floors — would be so perfect. I hate this place. I hate the way the bright, neon colors dance around my eyes, and how the thick, tough floors feel against my shoes. I hate having to duck down and crawl to move forward. I despise the stupid plastic balls that get in my way when I walk, like banana peels in a terrible skit. I loathe the rancid, yet nostalgic smell of the decaying foam and fraying mats that surround the play structures. I feel like a child throwing a temper tantrum. I just want to get out. I want to go home. The most childish aspect of this hellish playground is me. I pray for someone to save me.
I miss my mother.
